When working with textiles, I often use found and repurposed materials to create three-dimensional psychological works that relate to individual mental states and usually reference lines from a poem, mantra, horoscope, or even a tarot card. I usually dedicate a year to each large textile piece.
Aurora (2022-2023) pictured below is a two-sided, layered work built upon segments of un-dyed/felted wool processed/sewn together. Three layers of hand-quilted grey silk marked with circular stitches is applied to one side, opposed by an ovular array of reclaimed glass beads visible through a loose layer of black silk organza on the other. It depicts the slow release from the bondage of limiting beliefs -- the brain’s electrical impulses pulsating awareness that renaissance awaits.
